Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake is set to spend a night behind the bars at the Central Police Station in Kampala, this website has learnt.
Zaake was among the three MPs arrested earlier today at National Unity Platform offices in Makerere Kavule by security.
Others were Hassan Kirumira of Katikamu South and Francis Tebandeke of Bbaale County.
Zaake whose vehicle was impounded was driven up to the Central Police Station in Kampala where he spent hours inside the car as he refused to come out.
Meanwhile, police remained undeterred until after almost six hours when the legislator who had locked wind screens lowered them and asked that he is allowed to speak to his lawyers.
Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago would later show up as Zaake’s lawyer.
This website has separately learnt that the chaotic legislator is to be charged with a traffic offence after being found driving without a permit.
Earlier, Police defended deployment at NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule ahead of tomorrow march to parliament.
“NUP called upon MPs and councilors to come and attend a press conference which is fine. However, the party also called upon all pressure grounds and all supporters in the country to come and attend the same press conference at Kavule. If you are going to call all supporters of NUP in a small and crowded plot of land, we certainly have to heighten measures and taken note of concerns of the rights of others,” Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said.
“The longer you fail to recognize the rights of others, the long it will take you to enjoy your own. You need to balance the equation and understand that you don’t have absolute rights, you need to factor in other people , interests and coordinates with security regime on ground.”
