Giving Her Best: How Aisha Akello Built Her Dream Career in Russia

By | February 18, 2026

At just 20 years of age, Aisha Akello has turned a dream many would call cinematic into reality. The eldest and only daughter in her family, Akello set out to move abroad, earn a living, and build a home for her mother — a vision that has now become a tangible springboard for her future in Russia.

Akello’s journey began when she joined the international Alabuga Start Programme, a professional development initiative offering young women from around the world the chance to live in Russia, immerse themselves in the local culture, master one of seven professional fields, and learn the Russian language under qualified instructors.

Her first role was modest: clearing public areas in corporate hostels. It was challenging, particularly with language barriers and adapting to Russia’s harsh winters. But Akello’s determination, diligence, and focus on growth led to rapid progress.

She was promoted twice, eventually becoming an administrator.

“Moving to another country is difficult — the language barrier, the cold weather, everything is new. We started learning Russian and the culture, including how to respect and communicate with people,” Akello said.

“I had to prove them wrong. The first money I earned, I sent it to my mother, and now I am building a house for her.”

The Alabuga Start Programme is competitive and structured. While it offers significant opportunities for personal and professional development, participants must adhere strictly to the programme’s employment contract and Russian laws.

Laziness, lack of discipline, or violation of state regulations can lead to expulsion, cancellation of work permits, and deportation. The programme emphasizes that only hardworking, purposeful girls committed to growth are accepted and retained.

Akello’s success highlights the potential of the initiative. From starting with basic duties to becoming an administrator and supporting her family back home, she embodies the transformative impact of determination, discipline, and hard work.

For many young women, the Alabuga Start Programme remains a gateway to international careers, but Akello is living proof that success requires giving your best, every day.
