In a bizarre twist of Ugandan highway drama, a sleek Toyota Prado TX—more commonly seen at government functions and posh wedding convoys—was caught moonlighting as a high-speed livestock taxi in the wee hours of May 14.
According to a police statement released today, officers from Nagalama Police Station were on routine patrol around 3am near Kalagi Trading Centre when they spotted the white Prado TX (registration number UAZ 797G) moving in a manner that screamed, “This isn’t your usual Pajero cruise.”
When signalled to stop, the high-end SUV opted for a Fast & Furious escape instead. What followed was a police chase that ended dramatically in Nakasajja Trading Centre, where the vehicle was finally intercepted.
Inside the luxury 4x4? Not a minister or businessman as one might expect, but three bewildered cows, crammed into the rear like VIP guests on an unscheduled countryside tour.
Two of the four suspected cattle rustlers made a quick getaway on foot, while the other two weren’t as lucky—they sustained injuries from gunshots during the chase and were later pronounced dead en route to hospital.
Their identities, like their motives, remain under wraps as investigations continue.
The rescued cows have been taken in by authorities, no doubt wondering how their day began in a kraal and ended in the backseat of a Prado.
Police have praised the vigilance of their patrol officers and say the interception could be linked to a growing cattle theft racket plaguing rural communities.
While the Prado may be off the road for now, its brief second life as a livestock shuttle has certainly raised eyebrows—and quite possibly, hooves.
Stay tuned as investigators work to answer the burning question: who thought putting cows in a luxury SUV was a good idea?
