This year’s 39th NRM/A Victory Day celebrations, a total of 61 medals were awarded. Among these, 18 recipients were female, and 43 were male.

The awarding of medals in Uganda is supported by a legal framework under the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001.

This law provides the basis for recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation’s progress, security, and stability.

The NRM/A Victory Day is one of the occasions individuals are honored for their contributions.

Celebrated annually on 26th January, marks the anniversary of the National Resistance Army (NRA) and National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s triumph in 1986.

The medals presented on this day are a tangible recognition of the sacrifices and achievements that align with the ideals of this pivotal moment in the country’s history and are categorized as such;

The Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane is one of Uganda's highest honors, awarded in three categories: Grand Commander, Grand Officer, and Commander.

This medal symbolizes honor, patriotism, and dedication to national values, represented by the Crested Crane, Uganda's national emblem.

The Grand Commander is reserved for top-level contributions to national service and leadership. The Grand Officer recognizes significant achievements at a senior level, while the Commander category acknowledges notable leadership in key roles.

These medals are granted to individuals whose exemplary actions have profoundly impacted Uganda’s development.

The Distinguished Order of the Nile is another prestigious award, given in the categories of Grand Commander and Commander.

It signifies extraordinary efforts in fostering unity, peace, or development across the Nile Basin region.

This medal is often awarded to individuals who promote international cooperation, regional peace, or who have contributed significantly to Uganda’s global diplomacy.

The 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Medal celebrates six decades of Uganda's independence and recognizes individuals who have made lasting contributions to the country’s progress.

This medal is awarded to both Ugandans and foreigners who have played an instrumental role in advancing Uganda’s sovereignty, independence, or development across various sectors.

The Rwenzori Star Medal is reserved for individuals who display exceptional bravery, sacrifice, and dedication in challenging situations.

It is awarded to military personnel, police, or civilians who have made outstanding contributions to national security or demonstrated extraordinary courage in their line of duty.

The Distinguished Service Medal – Police honors police officers who have shown outstanding service, integrity, and commitment to maintaining law and order. It is awarded to those with long-term exemplary service or exceptional performance in critical operations.

For this year’s 39th NRM/A Victory Day celebrations, a total of 61 medals were awarded. Among these, 18 recipients were female, and 43 were male.

The 39th NRM/A Victory Day Anniversary will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the National Teachers College Grounds in Mubende Town Council, Mubende District.
