President Museveni 'decorates' Alupo

The 'Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa' is the highest civilian honour in Uganda, established in 2001 under the National Honours and Awards Act.

KATAKWI | President Museveni has feted his deputy Jessica Alupo with the prestigious 'Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa'.

Alupo, who is also the Katakwi Woman MP, was decorated during national celebrations of the International Women's Day in Katakwi on Friday.

The 'Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa' is the highest civilian honour in Uganda, established in 2001 under the National Honours and Awards Act.

The honour is reserved for heads of state, government leaders, and individuals who have made significant contributions to Uganda's socioeconomic development.

Alupo joins a distinguished list of African leaders who have received this accolade, including Tanzanian former leaders Julius Nyerere (posthumous) and Jakaya Kikwete, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and Mozambican former President Armando Guebuza.

Museveni praised Alupo's resilience and dedication to serving the nation during the decoration ceremony at Katakwi Boma Grounds.

He specifically highlighted her efforts in empowering women, recognizing her as a beacon of dedication.

At the ceremony, Vice President Alupo was joined by 57 other individuals, who were recognised for their outstanding contributions to various fields.

Among them were Soroti Resident City Commissioner Peter Pex Paak and Teddy Acham, the NRM mobiliser whose dedication and commitment were acknowledged during the event.

Alupo's dedication to Uganda and her impactful work in empowering women have earned her this distinguished recognition, cementing her status as a prominent figure in the nation's leadership landscape.
