Rukutana: "Museveni knows the truth about my alleged shooting incident" (VIDEO)

The minister of State for Labour, Mwesigwa Rukutana, has said he was worried President Museveni had been given negative information about his alleged his involvement in incidents of violence in Rushenyi, Ntungamo.

Rukutana was on September 5 arrested over violence he allegedly orchestrated in the Rushenyi primaries for the ruling NRM party.

Rukutana is alleged to have turned chaotic and in a scuffle grabbed a gun from one of his bodyguards and shot two people who were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

He was later charged in court where the matter is still pending.

However, Rukutana in an interview with NBS TV claimed he did not shoot anyone and such reports were a making of the social media and his political rivals.

According to Rukutana, those negative people do not bother him. He said he was only worried that President Museveni, whom he refers to as “his boss” had misunderstood the situation.

“I am not bothered at all by those negative reports. What would bothers me is if my boss, the president, had not understood. But I have had a dialogue with him and he has understood,” he claimed.

Museveni, who is also the NRM national chairman had earlier said that the former deputy attorney general must answer charges related to the violence he orchestrated after losing the election.

“The Minister Rukutana is in jail and will be prosecuted,” Museveni said.

Speaking generally about all forms of chaos exhibited during the party's primaries, Museveni said those who orchestrated the same will face the wrath of the law.

“Those who beat people, like in Bukono, are all in jail or on the run.  They will be fully accountable with robust charges; assault, attempted murder, murder etc. Those who altered results, will go to jail on forgery, fraud, subversion etc. and their forgeries will not stand,” he said.

Museveni also confirmed he was opposed to giving Rukutana jail, insisting he should pay for his deeds.
