Embattled Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira has appeared before the police court in Naguru.

Kirumira who on Wednesday announced his resignation as DPC and the eventual exit from the force was last week charged over a number of offences including corruption, extortion and unnecessary use of authority dating back in 2013 and 2014.

He was on Thursday forcefully arrested by police Flying Squad after breaking into his house in Bulenga, Wakiso district.

In the afternoon, the maverick police officer who is at the rank of Assistant Superintend of Police was arraigned before court where hearing of the case begun.

In his testimony, the first witness,Steven Atuhaire also known as Sunday Muleefu told the police court that Kirumira extorted 150,000 shillings from him before he could be released, a case that dates back in 2013.

However, Kirumira refused to cross examine the witness whom he said was a ghost.

The police officer demanded that the witness first produce his identification documents because on the charge sheet he was being identified as Steven Atuhaire but in court he identified himself as Sunday Muleefu.

"Of all the witnesses mentioned this one (Atuhaire) is not among," the confident Kirumira wondered.

However the court prosecutor Catherine Kusemereire said other witnesses would be brought at a later stage.

The court chairman Denis Odongpiny adjourned the matter to February 6th but the state prosecutor asked that Kirumira be detained so as to refrain him from interfering with witnesses and scandalising the matter.

He has been remanded to Railway Police detention facility in Nsambya.
