Bishop begs Museveni not to sign age limit Bill

Featured

The Bishop Ruwenzori Diocese, Reuben Kisembo has asked President, Yoweri Museveni not to sign the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2017 that was passed last week by Parliament.

The bill proposes the scrapping of the presidential age limit and extension of the tenure of members of parliament

The Bill will now be sent to the President for assent.  Delivering his Christmas message to Christians at St John's Cathedral this morning, Bishop Kisembo asked Museveni not to sign the bill to allow Ugandans to witness peaceful transfer of power.

Bishop Kisembo also warned the advisers of the president, against misleading him to seek re-election in the next general elections. Kisembo also commended the MPs who voted against the bill and criticised those who voted in favor, saying they betrayed the people of Uganda

Kisembo and Robert Muhirwa, the Bishop of Fort Portal have publicly spoken against scrapping the presidential age limit. They argue that the President should respect the oath he took to protect the constitution.

Bishop Kisembo was also concerned about the meaning of Christmas, which he says has changed.
