State House calls off doctors’ meeting

Featured

The meeting that was  due Friday, between doctors and president Museveni has been called off.

Museveni had agreed to meet doctors to chat a way forward regarding their demands. The doctors are currently on strike.

However, communication from State House confirms that the meeting will not happen.

“Yes the meeting has been cancelled, a new date will be communicated,” Museveni’s press secretary Don Wanyama said.

While at a public rally on Thursday in Burahya County, Kabarole District, President Museveni vowed to sack all striking medical doctors, accusing them of failure to stick to the NRM principle of managing scarce resources.

Museveni said that the striking doctors will soon be replaced by people who are hungry for jobs if they fail to use the scarce available resources the country is offering.

“I will not accept Ugandans to die, doctors who don’t want to work will be sacked,” he said.

However, in reply, Dr EKwaro Obuku, the president of Uganda Medical Association (UMA), said that the threats by Museveni will not work. He added that should doctors be sacked, then they will shift to neighboring Kenya.
