In case of riots in 2021 elections, we shall handle them- Museveni

President Museveni has said that under no circumstances will riots be allowed to prevail during the upcoming elections in 2021.

The President was responding to questions about the 2021 election roadmap from journalists who ‘ambushed’ him shortly after he launched the six phase of the Presidential Investors Roundtable at State House.

Journalists expressed that the currently blossoming tourism industry could be affected by upcoming general elections that are anticipated by a section of Ugandans to be ground shifting.

However, the president assured the journalists and the country at large that nothing, not even elections would disrupt the flourishing tourism sector.

“How can elections disrupt tourism, in any case if there are riots, we know how to handle them. Nobody will disturb Uganda,” he said.

The President’s comments have recently been hinged on quelling any form of destabilisation towards the peace of the country.

While officiating at the 38th NRA/UPDF anniversary celebrations dubbed Tarehe Sita in Kitgum District on Wednesday, Museveni said government will not hesitate dealing with whoever wants to destabilise the peace being enjoyed by Ugandans.

“When I read intelligence reports I feel pity for Africans. Anybody who thinks can disturb Uganda, they are destroying themselves, “Museveni said.

“For us we never attack anybody who is innocent but if you are foolish and think you can destabilise Uganda; you will destroy yourself.”

Museveni in the same breath acknowledged that he time and again has failed to visit the people in the sub region and only goes there while seeking for re-election, urging that he would dump the habit and instead pay a visit to familiarise himself with the area ‘way ahead of the elections’.
