Museveni: "I congratulate Anywar for embracing NRM"

President Museveni has said that he is happy that Kitgum Municipality MP, Beatrice Anywar has finally seen the good side of the NRM.

Speaking at a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the Centenary Church in Kitgum on Thursday, Museveni said Anywar had previously sowed confusion.

"I congratulate Hon. Anywar for finally embracing the revolutionary message of the NRM after years of constantly bringing confusion among her people. The issues that are being used to cause confusion are fundamentally valid but only the NRM has the practical and sustainable plan of resolving them," Museveni said.

Anywar is a former FDC strong woman best remembered for leading efforts to oppose the give way of part of Mabira forest in 2008. This earned her the nickname of "Mama Mabira."

However during the last election, she fell out with her party and started fraternising with the NRM. She even voted in support of the removal of the presidential age-limit last year.

Museveni said that Anywar had now seen the light and he was ready to work with her.

Regarding the nodding disease syndrome that has ravaged the Acholi sub region, Museveni said studies have shown that the syndrome is associated with river blindness.

"Government will therefore carry out a mass treatment twice a year in parts of Northern Uganda in the month of April and October and we shall hopefully have more districts declared free of nodding disease," he said.
