NRM retreat: Oulanyah tries to quietly woo MPs as Kadaga waits to make her pitch

Featured

Jacob Oulanyah has been quietly mobilising support for his speakership bid among the newly elected NRM MPs attending a retreat at Kyankwanzi, The Nile Post has learnt.

While the impact of his activities is not yet clear, the absence of his archival and incumbent, Rebecca Kadaga appears to have caught many people off guard and led to a proliferation of conspiracy theories.

So far, Oulanyah has been physically available twice at the retreat; once during the official opening by President Museveni where he got a thunderous clapping and ululation from the gathering.

Some said the reception had more to do with his style of dress (he came dressed as an eskimo officer) than his perceived support among the MPs.

The second time, Oulanyah led a contingent of legislators (elect) from Northern Uganda to a side line meeting with President Museveni on Tuesday. There was little activity there save for his loud chats with the MPs who would swarm him.

Kadaga, we are told, could make a grand appearance today (April 22) because Museveni is scheduled to meet newly elected MPs from Busoga sub region.

Interestingly, it is Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among who has made some splash at the retreat.

Sources told us that Among treated the MPs-elect to a drinking binge under the influence of content labelled with her initials (A.A).

Yet the excitement over Among's stunt was as short-lived as the impact of the content they imbibed.

Soon, it was back to normal business.

The instructors at Kyankwanzi have been deliberate, piling the members with so much work and less interval to indulge in talk of who will be speaker or who will not be.
