FAITH | The Zoe Fellowship leader, Prophet Elvis Mbonye, has said he received a prophecy Kenya's move to regulate religious activities will only make the East African nation pay.

Mbonye says God, on October 24 last year, foretold him of the heavy rains that pounded Kenya, leading to floods that claimed over 400 lives and loss of property estimated in billions of Kenya shillings.

Revealing his prophecy to the congregation during a fellowship, Mbonye said: "Yesterday I was praying throughout and the nation of Kenya came to me and the Lord started revealing to me certain things to cover that nation. He started to show me how Kenya had fallen prey to the wiles of the enemy."

The reference to the "enemy" is devil to whose wiles Prophet Mbonye warns that the Kenyan government was falling by narrowing of religious freedoms following.

"Something [that] happened a couple of months ago where people lost their lives and then the enemy came in with a scheme and called it the religious regulation".

At least 400 people died in April 2023 at the hands of Pastor Paul McKenzie of Good News International Ministries in what has infamously come to be known as the 'Shahakola Massacre'.

The discovery of mass graves after victims were starved to death in the doomsday cult killings prompted Kenyan President William Ruto to appoint a commission of inquiry into the controversial religious movement.

However, Prophet Mbonye on October 24 told his followers that tightening control over matters of faith through the proposed religious regulation "bears worse consequences as highlighted in the prophecy".
