Ugandan women have made light work of their opponents in badminton to advance to the quarterfinals here at the 13th All African Games, held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Hall in Accra, Ghana.

The women's badminton team showcased exceptional performance on Day One, with Husina Kobugabe, Gladys Mbabazi, Tracy Naluwoza, and Fadilah Shamika all securing victories in the round of 32.

Each won their matches with a convincing 2-0 score and will go into the round of 16 on Day Two brimming with confidence.

In contrast, of the four men representing Uganda in the men’s singles, only Expendicto Emuddu and Augustus Owinyi managed to advance past the round of 64.

Although they both won their initial matches with Emuddu triumphing 2:1, they were eliminated in the subsequent round of 32.

With the focus now on the men's doubles and mixed doubles events, Uganda faces Burkina Faso and hosts Ghana in the men’s doubles, while Burkina Faso, Togo, and Benin are the opponents in the mixed doubles round of 32.

Badminton is one of Uganda's seven disciplines at the 13th All African Games, serving as a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
