Music icon Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Jose Chameleone, is set to return home after undergoing months of medical treatment abroad.
In anticipation of his homecoming, fellow singer Ray G has launched a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise Shs1 billion in support of the legendary artist.
The initiative, championed by Ray G, calls on fans to contribute Shs10,000 each, targeting a base of at least 100,000 supporters.
The funds are intended to show appreciation for Chameleone’s immense contribution to Uganda’s music industry over the years.
"The Ugandan music industry thrives today because he sparked the fire. He carries the Uganda flag on every stage. He is coming home soon. Let’s give back to him with overwhelming love by raising Shs1 billion for Jose Chameleone," Ray G posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Ray G revealed that MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda have been approached to facilitate the process by providing mobile money codes for smooth and secure deposits.
"It takes just Shs10,000 from 100,000 fans to raise 1 billion for Chameleone. MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda, all we ask is that you provide codes to make this possible. A legend is coming back home," Ray G added.
Chameleone, one of East Africa’s most celebrated musical exports, is widely credited with laying the foundation for the modern Ugandan music scene.
The singer left for the US for treatment last year after spending weeks in a Kampala hospital with an unspecified illness that his estranged son Abba Marcus linked to substance abuse.
His return is expected to spark excitement across the country, with fans anticipating new music, performances, and emotional reunions.
The campaign not only underscores Chameleone’s enduring legacy but also highlights the unbreakable bond between Ugandan artists and their fans.
