Victoria University hands lifeline to secondary teachers amidst Covid-19
As the country grapples with Covid-19, Victoria University has introduced a community programme for secondary school teachers aimed at building their capacity to interact better with the society in which they live.
Under the programme dubbed "Diversify your skills”, teachers will liaise with the university, enrol for the program, obtain training then proceed to fend for themselves.

Bill Nkeeto the acting Vice Chancellor at Victoria University said the exercise is expected to generate a lot of market information about survival mechanisms of communities, interests and learning goals of university students.
He added that this will further boost Victoria University's mission of ensuring transformational education.
“Today we had an interaction with teachers from Kampala and nearby communities and the reason we invited them is that we realised that there is a gap in the services they offer. We felt a need for them to come and we tell them about us and we see how we can work together in a number of ways," he said.
Nkeeto explained that their trade is education and that implies it is complimented by career guidance.
"We want them to go out there in the communities, offer career guidance, talk about Victoria University and it’s the reason we are offering this training," he said.
For every student who is referred and joins Victoria University; the recommender will earn a commission of Shs 200,000 and Shs 150,000 for Bachelor’s degrees and diploma programmes respectively.
