Disability is not inability. John Kakama, a determined Senior Six student at Kigezi High School, embodies resilience and serves as an inspiration to many.

Born without upper limbs, Kakama has refused to let his physical condition limit his ambitions. He began his secondary education at Kigezi High School in 2020 and is now among the Senior Six candidates of 2026.

During a visit to the school, our reporter observed Kakama arriving early at the dormitory to begin his day.

He first went to the library to revise as he awaited his first lesson. In class, Kakama writes his notes using his feet.

Later, he proceeds to the computer laboratory, where he skillfully types on a desktop computer using his feet.

In an interview with Nile Post, Kakama spoke about his academic journey and aspirations.

"I am studying so that I can continue to university because I have the dream to become the Chief Justice of Uganda," he said.

Kakama noted that time management is one of the challenges he faces, often relying on fellow students for assistance during examinations.

"During examination periods, I am always challenged with time management," he explained.

Despite the difficulties, Kakama expressed happiness for reaching Senior Six and readiness for his final exams, remaining hopeful that he will perform well and achieve his goals.

Robert Ainembabazi, his Senior Six class teacher, described Kakama as a unique and hardworking student.

"Kakama performs well academically and is also multi-talented," Ainembabazi said.

Kinglioson Ampeire, Kakama’s friend, said he is inspired by Kakama’s determination and the way he manages his daily activities despite his condition.

Edick Arimumikono, the deputy head teacher in charge of welfare, described Kakama as a great inspiration not only to people living with disabilities but also to those without disabilities.

"Kakama was the top student in his class when he was promoted to Senior Six last year, and as a school we hope that he will not only excel at Kigezi High School but also become one of the best students in the country," Arimumikono stated.

John Kakama, who is offering Literature, Divinity, and Runyakore/Computer studies, stands as one of the 2026 Senior Six candidates whose determination continues to inspire his peers and the wider community.
