HOIMA – Hoima district chairman Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri Junior has urged head teachers in government schools to engage teachers and encourage them to attend to candidates’ classes, particularly as primary seven, senior four, and other students prepare for national examinations.
Mugisha made the remarks on Tuesday during the handover of science kits from the Ministry of Education and Sports to 20 government primary schools at the district headquarters.
He expressed concern that the ongoing industrial action could negatively affect academic performance if teachers do not prioritize candidates’ classes.
On the science kits, Mugisha advised school beneficiaries to use them to enhance the teaching of basic science.
The Hoima Resident District Commissioner, represented by Assistant RDC Shafiq Ntuuyo, warned against misusing the kits.
Regarding the industrial action, the RDC emphasized that the government is engaging Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) in dialogue and urged teachers to return to schools to serve learners.
Hoima district education officer Harriet Kihumuro said the kits, distributed to 200 government schools, are intended to help learners acquire foundational science knowledge and skills.
The district chief administrative officer, represented by Principal Assistant Secretary Evelyne K. Businge, stressed that the kits should be put to purposeful use to ensure value for public funds.
