Students at Kitala Secondary School in Entebbe have been urged to embrace patriotism as a foundation for becoming responsible, disciplined citizens committed to Uganda’s growth and unity.
This call was made during a lively pass-out ceremony where more than 400 students celebrated the successful completion of an intensive patriotism training program designed to instill national pride and civic values.
Speaking at the event, Sam Odong, Assistant Commissioner for Sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports, underscored the transformative power of patriotism in shaping the minds and hearts of young citizens.
“Patriotism instills a deep sense of belonging, inspiring students to protect their country and serve humanity with selflessness,” Odong said.
He added that the training enhances not just academic focus, but also physical fitness, discipline, and a law-abiding spirit—key traits for building a strong society.
Encouraging the students to embody self-sacrifice, Odong urged them to “go the extra mile in academics, discipline, and helping others,” noting that such efforts would drive both personal growth and national development.
Katabi Town Council Chairperson, Ronald Kalema, also addressed the graduates, stressing the broader role of patriotism in society.
“Patriotism goes beyond government—it’s about doing the right thing at the right time and in the right place. If we all commit to that, we will build not just a peaceful Uganda but a stronger Africa,” Kalema said.
He called on the students to lead lives of integrity and accountability, reminding them that their daily choices can shape the nation’s destiny.
Joseph Luswata, Head Teacher of Kitala Secondary School, elaborated on the goals of the program.
“Our training instills discipline and nurtures a love for country, environment, and community,” Luswata explained.
“Loving yourself builds the foundation to love and serve Uganda.”
He said the program equips students with the values and mindset necessary to navigate challenges and contribute to sustainable national development.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone, celebrating the graduates’ commitment to civic duty.
The training combined physical activities with lessons on national identity, community service, and leadership—laying the groundwork for a new generation of patriotic Ugandans ready to serve with dedication and unity.
