The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has embarked on a four-day training program for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) teachers in the districts of Ibanda, Kazo, and Kitagwenda.
The training, which kicked off on Monday at Kibubura Girls in Ibanda, aims to equip teachers with essential knowledge and skills related to the recently rolled-out A-Level curriculum.
According to Agaba Joseph Jude, a Curriculum Specialist at NCDC, the training is part of a nationwide initiative to ensure that teachers are well-versed with the curriculum changes. These include updates in content, assessment methods, and teaching methodologies.
“We have chosen to utilize this holiday period to train A-Level teachers and make them familiar with the changes in the curriculum,” Agaba said. “These changes are not just in what is taught, but also in how it is assessed and delivered in the classroom.”
Each participating school has sent five teachers to take part in the training. Agaba emphasised that the goal is to create a ripple effect whereby trained teachers return to their respective schools and lead the implementation of the new curriculum.
“One of the challenges we have encountered is that some teachers are struggling to interpret the new curriculum,” he noted.
“This training is designed to empower them, to help them understand how to interpret the syllabus, determine how much content they can cover, and how to assess learners effectively. “He noted
The training is expected to conclude on Thursday.
Earlier this year, NCDC officially launched the new A-Level curriculum and committed to a nationwide rollout, including targeted training sessions like this one to ensure smooth and effective implementation.
