Top Masindi UCE Candidate Appeals for Support to Advance Studies

Kevin Isingoma, the top candidate in the recently released Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams from Masindi, is facing financial challenges that have delayed his education.

Two weeks after his peers began studying in Senior Five, Isingoma remains at home in Kibwona Village, Karujubu Sub-county, Masindi District.

Along with his twin sister, Prossy Nyakato, Isingoma is appealing to well-wishers for support to continue their studies and achieve their dreams.

Despite his remarkable academic success—scoring five A’s in English, History, CRE, Agriculture, Physics, and Entrepreneurship—along with five B’s in Geography, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Project, Isingoma is unable to proceed to Senior Five due to financial constraints. His parents, struggling to meet the costs, are unable to fund his education.

“I was surprised when the results came, and I was not only the best in my school but also in the district,” Isingoma shared. “I want to become an electrical engineer, but I need help to continue my education. If anyone can support me, I would be very grateful.”

Isingoma has faced financial difficulties throughout his academic journey.

He studied on scholarships from primary school through Senior Four, and while he received a half bursary in Senior Four at Greenfield Secondary School, his parents could not afford the balance, often facing the challenge of being sent home due to unpaid fees.

His mother, Margret Ayesiga, described the difficult choices she has had to make to support her children’s education.

“We’ve sold almost everything to ensure they sat for Senior Four exams,” she said. “Both of them have big dreams—Isingoma wants to be an engineer, and Nyakato wants to be a lawyer.”

Nyakato, also an exceptional student, earned five B’s and four C’s in her UCE exams, achieving the coveted result one.

However, she, too, is unable to continue her studies due to financial constraints.

Currently, the twins are helping with farming as their daily routine, while their only hope lies in the support of any well-wishers or organizations that may come forward to help them pursue their dreams.

Isingoma and Nyakato’s story is a testament to the power of determination despite adversity, and they remain hopeful that their future can be brightened with the support they need to continue their education.
