A growing trend in Bugweri District has sparked concern among private school administrators, as some parents enroll their children in multiple schools to avoid paying school fees.

Margret Namuyumba, a director of a private school in Idudi Town Council, revealed that these parents enroll their children in different schools and send them to whichever one doesn’t demand fees.

“When you chase a child for fees, they simply go to another school wearing that school’s uniform,” Namuyumba said, describing the practice as a significant challenge for private schools.

This tactic is reportedly common among parents dissatisfied with the performance of government schools but struggling to meet the higher fees in private institutions.

“Parents are reluctant to pay fees, yet they want their children in private schools for better results,” said Rose Nabirye, one of the affected parents.

Bugweri District Inspector of Schools, Grace Betty Kutolawo, criticised the behaviour, warning it undermines children’s education.

“Constantly moving between schools prevents children from settling, concentrating, or building rapport with teachers, which negatively impacts their performance,” she noted.

Peter Kagwa, prime Mminister of Bukono Chiefdom in Busoga Kingdom, urged parents to prioritise their children’s education.

“I encourage parents to educate their children no matter the challenges. This is the path to grooming upright and successful citizens,” he said.
