Kamwenge District Pledges to Transform School Infrastructure
Kamwenge District has launched an ambitious initiative to improve school infrastructure, aiming to create better learning environments for students across the district.
The plan, part of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, focuses on constructing new classrooms, upgrading outdated facilities, and addressing basic sanitation needs in schools to ensure accessible, quality education for all.
Fred Mbonigaba, the district education secretary, emphasized that the project prioritizes schools facing severe overcrowding and deteriorating facilities.
"Schools lacking sufficient classrooms or dealing with aging structures are our main concern," he explained.
Railway and Rwamwanja primary schools will receive new classrooms to address overcrowding, while schools such as Kanimi, Mpanga, Rukunyu, Ntonwa, and Kabuye are slated for extensive renovations.
Sanitation improvements are a core component of the initiative.
"We are committed to constructing latrines at schools where sanitation facilities are insufficient," Mbonigaba added.
"No child should have to attend a school that doesn’t meet basic hygiene standards."
The district’s commitment responds to its expanding population and increasing demand for educational improvements.
Kamwenge leaders hope these upgrades will foster a better learning environment where students can focus on academics without infrastructure-related challenges.
To sustain these improvements, the district plans to support additional schools in future fiscal years.
"Our vision is comprehensive," said Mbonigaba.
"In six years, we aim to elevate all schools in need of infrastructural improvements, creating safe, conducive environments for every student."
Community leaders and educators are optimistic about the district’s efforts, recognizing the long-term benefits of enhanced educational facilities.
With improved classrooms and sanitation, Kamwenge’s young learners can look forward to an educational environment that promotes their academic growth and well-being.
The education department has so far received over Shs14 billion for the 2024/2025 financial year to fund this transformative initiative.
