I&M Bank Donates Computers to Masheruka Girls' School
I&M Bank Uganda has donated 16 fully equipped computers to Masheruka Girls’ Secondary School in a bid to enhance students' access to technology and support their education.
The handover ceremony took place on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the school located in Masheruka Town Council, Sheema District, approximately 16 km off Kabwohe–Buhweju Road.
The donation was personally delivered by I&M Bank's CEO, Robin Bairstow, alongside a team of senior bank officials including Chief Business Officer Edward Gibson Nangon, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Annette Nakiyaga, and Communications and Outreach Officer Racheal Kulanyi.
The initiative forms part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to promote education and community development.
“This donation is part of our broader initiative to support the development of education and better the ability for students to thrive in the information era,” Bairstow remarked.
“We believe that these computers will be tools that will improve the students’ learning experience in today’s technologically driven learning space.”
Bairstow emphasized the importance of education in fostering national development, encouraging students to make the most of the opportunity.
"By investing in education, we empower individuals and contribute to the broader development of our communities. Amongst you are the next CEOs and leaders of this nation," he added.
Dr Catherine Nuwagira Kangume, headteacher of Masheruka Girls' Secondary School, expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it would significantly improve the students' access to technology and enrich their learning experience.
She was joined by Dr Medard Twinamatsiko Katonera, chairperson of the school’s board of governors, as well as other school administrators, teachers, and student representatives.
"We have been lacking in the area of computer resources, and this donation comes at a crucial time," Dr. Nuwagira said. "It will greatly enhance our students' ability to access technology and improve their learning experience."
Dr Twinamatsiko also revealed that a recent fundraising drive aimed to construct a modern science laboratory at the school.
He noted that the computer donation aligns with their vision to equip the laboratory with the necessary technology to further boost the students' educational development.
"Computer skills are essential in every aspect of life today, and by providing our students with access to technology, we are not only improving their education but preparing them for future opportunities and challenges," Dr Twinamatsiko stated.
The event concluded with a tree planting exercise, symbolizing growth and sustainability.
This gesture underscored I&M Bank’s commitment to environmental conservation alongside its focus on education and community empowerment.
This donation follows I&M Bank's active engagement in the education sector through various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Earlier this year, the bank marked its 50th anniversary by donating Shs20 million to support the education of caddies and golf course maintenance staff at Entebbe Club.
The funds aim to cover school fees for these individuals and their families for the next three years.
In addition to education, I&M Bank's CSR efforts also focus on environmental conservation, economic empowerment, and enabling philanthropy.
