Samson Kasumba: Celebrating Levixone and Desire’s Right to Marriage
Default Text
In a world full of limits disguised as freedoms, Levixone exercised one of the most personal rights we have: choosing who to marry. Society’s opinions should not overshadow love or legality.

We live in a world that constantly talks about freedom—but what does it really mean? Are we ever truly free? Take something as basic as eating: we are told we are free to eat anything, yet hunger, health considerations, and even the size of our stomachs impose limits. Freedom, it seems, always comes with boundaries.

With that in mind, Levixone had the freedom to marry Desire. This freedom exists within the limits of Uganda’s Constitution and his religious beliefs—and nothing beyond that matters. There is no law broken, no moral code violated.

Love is an accident of life, and Levixone, an adult of sound mind, knows best how to navigate his own life. Who understands his journey better than he does?

Society should not dictate decisions that concern two consenting adults. Even if their union were to last only a short time, that is a private matter. Age, societal expectations, or perceptions of morality have no bearing on the legitimacy of their love.

Critiques based on “African morals” are lazy and irrelevant; morality is subjective and has always been debated.

Content creators may voice disapproval, and that is also their freedom. But marriage is an intimate experience for the couple, not a spectacle for society’s approval. In my 31 years as a wedding emcee, I have never seen a wedding where everyone agreed the couple were perfect for each other. What matters is that the couple themselves are happy and committed.

Levixone and Desire have made their choice. Let us celebrate their love rather than scrutinize it.
