Kira Municipality MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has said he will quit the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) if the opposition party fails to make reforms.
Since July, Ssemujju Nganda has been at the forefront of exposing the FDC leadership led by party president Patrick Amuriat and secretary general, Nathan Nandala Mafabi. He has accused Mafabi and Amuriat of introducing "dirty money" into the party whose source they declined to reveal.
He accuses the FDC top leadership at Najjanankumbi of incompetence, and plotting to mortgage the opposition party to President Yoweri Museveni.
Speaking to NBS Television, Ssemujju revealed that he is ready to leave FDC and join another platform should the party leadership fail to change the alleged status quo.
”If the FDC can reform, I will be glad. If those who have captured it want to take it to Museveni, I wish them well. We will identify another platform whether it will be individual or group, and then we will continue,” Ssemujju Nganda said.
He stressed that the FDC has contradicted its founding principles, adding that he does not see any reason for staying in such a party.
”FDC is not a religion, it is not my faith, not my clan. If FDC is no longer a forum for democratic change, really, what business do I have with it? You can say anything but I will move on. Even if there are no parties.” the MP said.
This comes days after FDC fired Ssemujju as the party chief whip, and replaced him with Mawokota South MP, Yusuf Nsibambi.
Nganda’s sacking followed his fallout with the Najjanankumbi faction after publicly alleging that Mafabi and Amuriat had been receiving ‘suspicious money’ from Museveni.
However, Mafabi, recently came out to dismiss the claims as false, further accusing Ssemujju Nganda of actually being the one who benefits from the ruling government. Mafabi, also questioned the source of Ssemujju’s ’expensive’ campaigns.
”The same person received money for vehicles like other Members of Parliament. Why didn’t he return the money given to him for the vehicle? In all his previous campaigns, Ssemujju has used huge sums of money in his campaigns putting up very expensive billboards, did you bother to find out the sources of his funding,” Mafabi said early this month.
He has also accused Nganda of conniving with the party founding leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye to capture the party power for ‘selfish reasons’.
