KAMPALA | The General Court Martial has this morning blocked journalists from covering the bail application hearings of 28 detained supporters of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).

The suspects have been in custody since December 2020 and are facing charges related to the unlawful possession of 13 explosive devices. The arrests took place during the presidential campaigns.

Brig Gen Freeman Mugabe, the presiding officer of the Makindye-based military court, did not offer any explanation for ordering the journalists kicked out.

Previous attempts by the detainees to secure bail have been denied by the military court due to insufficient sureties.
