Renowned guitarist Myko Ouma and his band delivered a captivating performance at the Absa 2024 Pro-Am golf tournament prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday, September 3 at the Entebbe Golf Club.

The event brought together music and sports enthusiasts for an evening filled with entertainment and celebration.

The band began playing at 7:20pm, with Ouma, dressed in a white kitenge shirt, kangaroo cap, and black trousers, setting the tone for the evening by inviting guests to enjoy "old-school music."

The audience, visibly excited, sang along with the band throughout the night, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event.

The prize-giving ceremony also marked the announcement of winners in various categories, with the top ten players earning the opportunity to participate in the 2025 Magical Kenya Open, courtesy of Absa Bank Uganda.

These slots were awarded to the highest-ranking players in both the professional and amateur categories of the Absa Pro-Am tournament.

Selected professionals must still meet the Magical Kenya Open's selection criteria to compete, and any unused slots by professionals will be reallocated to the next best amateur golfers.

In addition to the chance to compete internationally, the top three professional winners of the tournament shared a cash prize of Shs8 million.

The announcement was made by Michael Segwaya, Absa Bank Uganda’s Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, who emphasised the bank's commitment to supporting local talent.

“We are driven by the desire to be a force for good in the community, and this support will provide our Ugandan players the opportunity to enhance their skills and gain international exposure by participating in the prestigious Magical Kenya Open," Segwaya stated.

"This opportunity has, over the years, contributed to elevating our golf players and unlocking opportunities for growth. Our efforts have paid off, as reflected by achievements like Ronald Rugumayo making history as the first Ugandan player to make the cut for the DP World Tour owing to Absa’s support.”

The Absa Pro-Am golf tournament has become a significant event on Uganda's sports calendar, fostering talent and providing local players with opportunities to compete on an international stage.

The tournament not only promotes the sport of golf but also brings the community together through initiatives that encourage growth and development.

The 2025 Magical Kenya Open, part of the DP World Tour, is set to be held at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

Known for its challenging course and high level of competition, the event draws top golfers from around the world.

The inclusion of Ugandan players in this tournament further cements Absa Bank's role in promoting sports development in the region.
