According to Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the operation was conducted on June 21, 2026, following information received by Namusera Police Post from local leaders about a house reportedly accommodating an unusually large number of children.
Acting on the tip-off, police officers, working alongside local leaders and community members, conducted an operation at the premises and found 18 juveniles—nine boys and nine girls—living in two rooms under circumstances investigators described as suspicious.
Preliminary findings indicate that the children, aged between three and 12 years, were allegedly transported from Luweero and Masindi districts under unclear circumstances.
Police arrested two suspects identified as George Mulindwa, 33, a teacher by profession, and Madinah Babirye, 24, a casual worker.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The rescued children have since been placed under protective care while authorities work to establish their identities and trace their parents or guardians.
Police said the process is being undertaken in collaboration with child protection and social welfare agencies.
Rusoke warned the public against engaging in any form of child trafficking or exploitation and urged vigilance within communities.
"The Police strongly caution members of the public against engaging in any form of child trafficking or exploitation," he said.
He also appealed to parents and guardians whose children may have gone missing under unclear circumstances to report to the nearest police station.
"Parents or guardians with missing children under unclear circumstances are encouraged to immediately report to the nearest Police station for assistance and possible linkage to this ongoing investigation," Rusoke added.
Investigations into the suspected trafficking in persons case and related offences remain ongoing.
