Police in Mukono District have recovered three suspected stolen cows and arrested one suspect following a pre-dawn operation along the Kampala–Kayunga Highway.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, a motorcycle patrol team intercepted a white Toyota LiteAce registration number UAX 417Y at about 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Nagalama Division.

The vehicle, which was covered with an orange tarpaulin, allegedly failed to stop when officers signaled it to do so, prompting a pursuit.

“The vehicle was later abandoned at Kalagi Trading Centre, and three occupants fled the scene. Upon inspection, officers recovered three cows concealed inside the vehicle,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.

Police arrested one suspect, identified as Byansi Livingston, also known as Lubega Yusuf, who is currently in custody to assist with investigations.

Authorities said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the other suspects who escaped.

The recovered cattle and vehicle have been taken to Nagalama Police Division as police work to verify ownership and establish whether the animals were stolen.

Police have called on anyone who recently lost cattle or has information that could help identify the rightful owners to report to Nagalama Police Division.

Investigations into the suspected cattle theft are ongoing.
