Police in Kabale District are holding one Godfrey Babikyingira, who is accused of assaulting his wife to death following a domestic dispute in Nyakarindi Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Subcounty.

The suspect allegedly attacked his wife, Gorrette Niwamanya, 35, a housewife and resident of the same area.

According to Kigezi sub-region police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime, the incident occurred on June 7, 2026, at around 7:30pm.

It is alleged that the deceased had been drinking waragi at a local bar in Kasheregyenyi when the suspect confronted her, accusing her of stealing his money.

“...the said suspect accused the deceased, his wife, for stealing his money after he picked a fencing plant, oruyenge, which he used as a killer weapon to beat the deceased, which resulted in her death,” Tumushime said.

Police say officers from Kamuganguzi Police Station responded to the scene and arrested Babikyingira to assist with investigations.

The suspect is currently being held at Kabale Central Police Station as inquiries continue.
