Police have recovered the body of Babirye Lydia, a 52-year-old resident of Kigowa, Ntinda, following investigations into her reported kidnapping.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, a kidnapping case was reported at Old Kampala Police Station on June 4, 2026, after the victim was reported missing.
Police say the suspects later contacted the victim’s relatives using her phone and demanded money in exchange for her release.
A joint security team subsequently launched investigations that resulted in the arrest of several suspects, including Vincent Ssemugenyi, Olivia Nakiryowa, Shafiq Kagga and Abubakar Ntege.
“Following sustained investigations, detectives established links between Shafiq Kagga and Abubakar Ntege and the kidnapping case,” Owoyesigire said.
Ntege was later arrested in Nateete and, during interrogation, reportedly led detectives to his residence in Kiteredde Village, Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District, where the victim’s body was recovered.
According to police, the body was found in a decomposing state inside the suspect’s house. It had been wrapped in a mattress cover and tied with ropes. Investigators also discovered a grave that had been dug within the compound.
“The scene was processed and the body conveyed to KCCA City Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue,” Owoyesigire said.
Police said two suspects, Abubakar Ntege and Shafiq Kagga, remain in custody as investigations into the kidnapping and death continue.
The recovery of the body marks a significant development in the case as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the victim’s abduction and death.
