Police at Katwe have arrested five suspects following a surge in the theft of motor vehicle number plates in Ndejje, Mutundwe, and Masaja.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects allegedly steal number plates, leave their phone contacts behind, and then demand money from vehicle owners in exchange for the return of the plates.
“Search operations have been conducted in various locations, leading to the recovery of over 20 stolen number plates,” SP Kawala said.
Among the recovered number plates are: UAX 009/C, UAZ 753/W, UA 613BQ, UAY 398/Z, and UBH 385/H.
