Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested a suspected robber targeting bank customers using motorcycles. The suspect, identified as Hussen Wagaba, a 27-year-old male from Kayunga in Wakiso District, was apprehended following an attempted robbery in Najjera.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the arrest occurred after a victim, Deborah Nakawomne, aged 27, withdrew Shs 21 million from a bank in Ntinda and hired a boda boda to return home to Buwaate.

“As the victim was passing near the police station opposite Stabex in Najjera, another motorcycle approached at high speed, and the passenger grabbed her bag. The victim raised an alarm, prompting officers nearby to respond immediately,” he said.

While the suspect riding the motorcycle managed to escape due to heavy traffic, police successfully arrested Hussen Wagaba, who had grabbed the bag. The stolen Shs 21 million was recovered.

The suspect is currently detained at Najjera Police Station as investigations continue, with authorities working to apprehend the accomplice.

Owoyesigyire urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, noting that “prompt reporting can prevent criminals from succeeding in their operations.”
