Residents of Maya in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, are living in fear following a series of violent robberies by armed thugs who ambush people returning home from work.
The attacks have been reported in the villages of Bujaasi, Busembe, and Mpiringisa, all within Maya Parish.
One of the latest victims, Ronnie Kakinda, who works at his father’s butcher shop in Maya, was attacked and hacked by thugs at around 3:30am as he returned home to Mpiringisa Village.
The assailants robbed him of all the money he had earned that day before fleeing.
Kakinda was rushed to Lubaga Hospital in Kampala in critical condition.
According to Muhammad Kamoga, the Public Relations Officer for Ssabagabo Nsangi Division, at least four residents have been attacked and injured by the same group of thugs over the past two weeks.
The LC1 Chairperson of Maya Mpiringisa, Moses Bukenya, said the attack occurred while local leaders were on a joint patrol with police in a nearby village.
He urged residents to be more cautious, especially at night, and to avoid walking alone in dark or isolated areas.
