Police Hunt for Forklift Driver After Worker Dies Following Mukono Factory Accident

Police in Mukono have kicked off investigations into an incident in which a worker at Polysack Factory in Kigunga, Mukono district died due to injuries sustained following an accident at the factory.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, , Deebat Rogers, 60 was knocked by a forklift while at work on Monday.

“It is alleged that on  September, 8,  2025, at around 4:30pm, while on duty at the factory, the deceased was knocked by a forklift machine. He was rushed to the factory clinic . His condition worsened and he was later transferred in a community ambulance Reg. No. UBB 754B, heading to Kibuli Hospital, Kampala,” Owoyesigyire said.

He said while on the way, as they approached Bweyogerere, the victim’s condition deteriorated further and the driver diverted to Gwatiiro Hospital.

“Unfortunately, doctors on duty found him breathless and he was later pronounced dead. The body has since been conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.”

Owoyesigyire said police have since visited the scene to  record statements from witness and  obtain CCTV footages of the incident.

He said a case of suspected rash and neglect causing the death of a person has since been recorded  as investigations continue.

“We are also actively tracing the suspect who was allegedly driving the forklift at the time of the incident so as to aid our inquiries,” Owoyesigyire said.

“We urge the public to avoid speculation as Police will actively investigate the cause of death. So far, there is no evidence to suggest that the incident was intentional.”

Police urged factories and workplaces to strengthen safety standards and prevent such tragedies in the future.
