Police in Njeru Municipality are investigating a break-in at Naminya Baptist Church in Naluwerere Zone, Wakisi Division, in which thieves stole musical and electronic equipment valued at Shs10 million.
The incident reportedly took place overnight on Saturday, July 13, 2025, and was reported to police early the following morning at around 5:50am by Karim Lugaju, a 27-year-old resident of the area.
According to police, the stolen items include speakers, an amplifier, a piano, a sound mixer, a microphone, and electrical wiring.
Ssezibwa Region Police Spokesperson SP Hellen Butoto said a police sniffer dog was deployed at the scene and led investigators to the residence of a local man, Paul Kimuli, who was subsequently arrested and is being held at Njeru Central Police Station.
“We take such acts of criminality seriously, especially when they target places of worship. Investigations are ongoing, and we urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police,” SP Butoto said.
The burglary has shocked the local community, with residents expressing disbelief that a church could be the target of such a crime.
Police have since increased patrols in the area and appealed for public cooperation in tracking down additional suspects and recovering the stolen equipment.
