Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a fire outbreak that ravaged part of the boys’ dormitory at Nakawa Union Vision Secondary School in Butabika during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at around 1:00 am in Butabika Hospital Village, Butabika Parish, Nakawa Division, causing panic among students and residents. Fortunately, no lives were lost.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

He confirmed that emergency responders were quick to act, helping to contain the situation before it escalated further.

“Police were notified and responded immediately with a fire brigade team from Butabika Police Station. Additional reinforcements were dispatched from the Fire Brigade Headquarters to help extinguish the fire,” said SSP Onyango.

While the exact value of property destroyed remains unknown, Onyango noted that significant damage was sustained in the affected dormitory block.

School authorities and police are currently working to assess the full extent of the destruction.

“We are grateful that there were no casualties. All students were safely evacuated,” Onyango added, emphasizing the quick response by emergency teams.

The police have launched a formal investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire and to rule out any foul play.

Onyango confirmed that inquiries are ongoing and pledged transparency in the findings.
