Police are investigating a violent armed robbery that left one person dead and two others seriously injured in Kasenge, Kyengera Town Council, on Monday night.
The attack occurred around 8 PM during a power outage, when unidentified gunmen stormed a mobile money shop in the trading centre. Eyewitnesses said the assailants fired several gunshots, prompting residents to flee in panic.
Wasswa, a resident of the area, was shot and died at the scene. Two others—Simeo Lubega and Jackline Nakilya—sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment.
Lubega, a butcher, said he was hit in the legs as he tried to flee. Nakilya remains in critical condition.
The suspects reportedly targeted mobile money operators and fled before security forces could respond. There is no known arrest so far.
Residents have blamed the absence of a local police post for the slow response and called for increased security presence. “We feel abandoned,” said one resident, who asked not to be named.
Kyengera Town Council Mayor Mathias Mulumba Walukagga urged the government to investigate the incident and review local policing.
“Our people deserve better protection. We must find out whether this failure was just neglect or something more serious,” he said.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that a team of investigators has been deployed.
“We are treating this case with the seriousness it deserves and are working to identify those responsible,” he said.
Residents have begun mobilising for improved security, including calls for a permanent police post and the formation of community watch groups.
The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
