Rukungiri Man Accused of Killing Wife After Late-Night Dispute Crime

Police in Rukungiri District are investigating a suspected case of domestic violence that turned deadly, after a man allegedly killed his wife during a late-night argument.

The victim, 42-year-old Annet Arinaitwe, was reportedly struck on the head by her husband, 32-year-old Vanansio Tumuramye, in the early hours of April 26, 2025, at their home in Kabasoni cell, Nyakitabire parish, Ruhinda sub-county.

The couple had earlier attended a social evening at Omurusandasi trading centre on April 25, returning home at about 11pm.

After an argument over whether to return for more drinks, they went to bed.

Tumuramye later woke up to find Annet missing and, upon searching, met her returning from the trading centre.

A fresh confrontation followed, during which Tumuramye allegedly hit her with a stone after she overpowered him.

The suspect is said to have called a boda boda rider to take Annet to Burombe Health Centre III, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

He then abandoned her body along the Ruhinda-Rukungiri road and fled.

Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, saying police were informed and the scene documented.

"Statements were recorded from witnesses, and the suspect was arrested. The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for post-mortem examination," Maate said.

He added that investigations are ongoing.
