Security forces have since heightened surveillance in the area, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue working with law enforcement to keep illegal firearms off the streets.

A gun-wielding suspect, a resident of Namijmij Village, has fled during a police operation that uncovered an illegal firearm at his residence.

In an intelligence-led raid conducted on April 21, 2025, security forces surrounded the suspect's home, only for the alleged gunman to slip away before arrest.

Police say the suspect’s identity is being withheld for operational reasons, but efforts to track him down are in full swing.

According to Mike Longole, the Karamoja Region Police spokesperson, the operation was a result of credible intelligence gathered from the community.

It led to the recovery of an SMG rifle, bearing registration number 2648, which is now safely in police custody.

"We appreciate the cooperation from members of the local community who shared timely information," Longole said

"The weapon seized was potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. We are committed to ensuring the suspect is arrested and held accountable."

Security forces have since heightened surveillance in the area, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue working with law enforcement to keep illegal firearms off the streets.

Authorities are treating the matter with high priority, citing concerns over rising gun-related crimes in parts of Karamoja.

The police have promised to update the public as investigations and the manhunt progress.
