The territorial police at Naggalama in Mukono district have successfully rescued 51 individuals from a dangerous human trafficking syndicate operating under the guise of job recruitment.
On the morning of April 2, 2025, authorities received intelligence about victims being lured to join AIM Global Alliance, a supposed networking company in the Nagalama division.
The victims were told to pay Shs150,000 each for "training" upon reporting for work. .
However, the situation quickly turned into an exploitative scheme, with victims manipulated into paying even more.
After the initial payment, the traffickers confiscated the victims' phones, and began recruiting their friends and family members into the scam.
Relatives were coerced into paying up to shs1.5 million to "buy products" they were promised to sell for large profits.
"They always promise victims that in the future they will reach a time when they will be earning at least shs1 milion depending on the people you have recruited and the sales made," the police stated.
The scheme preyed on victims’ hopes of financial gain, while exploiting their trust and resources. The police operation uncovered several hideouts across Kalagi, where victims were living in deplorable conditions.
At various locations in Kalagi, including Kakola and Kalagi villages, victims were found crammed into tiny rooms. In Kakola village, 14 victims, 11 females and 3 males, were found sleeping in a single room, while 20 more victims were discovered in another cramped space in Kalagi village.
"All of these victims were being recruited by Kasule Zephaniah and Nantima Evelyn, who have been arrested and detained at Nagalama."
The swift police action has led to the arrest of two key figures in the trafficking ring, but investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the operation.
