Police in Rwenzori East have arrested a man for allegedly severing both arms of his wife in a brutal case of domestic violence.

Hassan Ngobi Kadogo is said to have turned his rage on Ester Mbambu following accusations of infidelity on Thursday night in Nyakasonjo Lower, Bulembia Division, Kasese Municipality.

Mbambu, a vendor at Sauliyako Market, was found bleeding profusely near her home before being rushed to Mt St Mary’s Hospital.

She suffered severe injuries, including deep wounds on her head and body, and remains in critical condition.

Rwenzori East Police Community Liaison Officer, SP Luka Mbusa, condemned the attack and urged the public to seek help in resolving domestic disputes.

"We strongly discourage such acts of brutality. People should seek help from authorities when facing domestic disputes instead of resorting to violence," SP Mbusa said.

Miss Justin Mulhuba, Mbambu’s caretaker, described the horrific scene.

"My sister was found in a pool of blood, helpless. Doctors are trying everything, but her condition is worrying," she said.

Sr. Suzan Kabugho, administrator at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital, confirmed Mbambu was brought in around 11:00 PM in a critical state.

The attack comes just days after another domestic violence case in the region. On March 17, police arrested a retired officer, Sipiriano Kyakwaire, 65, for allegedly stabbing his wife, Night Masika, 50, to death at their home in Kakone I Village, Nyakiyumbu Sub-County.

Authorities have urged the public to prioritise dialogue and report domestic conflicts early to prevent further tragedies.
