Mbarara Police Investigate Suspected Suicide of 14-Year-Old Pupil

The young girl, a resident of Kabamba Cell, Kicwamba Ward, was found hanging at the home of a man only identified as Otafiire.

Police in Mbarara City South Division are investigating the suspected suicide of a 14-year-old girl, a Primary Five pupil at Rwemiko Primary School.

The young girl, a resident of Kabamba Cell, Kicwamba Ward, was found hanging at the home of a man only identified as Otafiire.

According to Police, the tragic discovery was first reported yesterday morning at around 9:40am. when Abaasa, the area chairman, received a call from a concerned resident.

The caller informed him that the girl, who lived at Otafiire’s home, had taken her own life using a rope.

Upon receiving the distressing news, Abaasa rushed to the scene to verify the situation before alerting the police.

Law enforcement officers responded promptly, visiting and documenting the scene before transferring the body to Mbarara City mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

However, authorities have yet to determine the reason behind the girl’s actions.

Rwizi Region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, confirmed the incident, stating, "Investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact cause of the tragedy," Kasasira said.
