In Gombe, Village Residents Demand Action as Gang Violence Claims Young Man’s Life

Residents of Kito village in Matugga, Gombe Division, Nansana Municipality, are gripped by fear following a surge in gang-related violence that has left a 21-year-old man dead.
Godfrey Kabajja was fatally attacked by a youth gang known as the Bakasolo group while on his way home.
Witnesses say the assailants struck him on the head with a stone, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Mulago Hospital but died before arrival.
The attack has sparked outrage among residents, who accuse the police of failing to contain the rising criminal activities in the area. Many claim the gang has been operating openly, robbing people near a local water company and a church.
"We have repeatedly reported these criminals to the police, but nothing has been done. They are well known in the area, yet they continue to attack innocent people," said Eseza Nanyange, Kabajja’s mother.
Local leaders, including Gombe Division Mayor Ronald Kasirivu Kabembula, have condemned the violence and called for urgent police intervention.
While police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, residents insist that immediate action is needed to prevent further bloodshed.
The killing has reignited concerns over youth unemployment and crime, with residents urging authorities to address the root causes of gang violence before more lives are lost.
