Mob Lynches Man Accused of Cattle Theft in Buikwe

A suspected cattle thief was killed in a mob attack in Butabira village, Nyenga Division, Buikwe District, on Saturday evening.
Bosco Ssendagire, a 35 year-old native healer, was beaten to death by angry residents after a police sniffer dog led officers to his home during an investigation into a stolen cow.
According to police reports, Micheal Munghoola filed a complaint at Nyenga Police Station on March 8, 2025, reporting the theft of his cow during the night of March 7.
Police deployed a canine unit, which tracked the scent to Ssendagire's residence. However, Ssendagire was not at home at the time, and no immediate arrest was made.
Later that evening, at around 9:30pm, a group of community members allegedly hunted him down and fatally assaulted him.
The incident was reported to Nyenga Police Station by Jane Nabuduwa, a resident of the area.
Police, led by area OC ASP Kaptoch Jimmy and D/ASP Herbert Natukunda, visited the crime scene, examined evidence, and transported the body to Jinja Referral Hospital for a postmortem.
However, efforts to obtain witness statements from the community have so far been unsuccessful, as residents have declined to cooperate.
Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the mob justice killing.
"We strongly condemn acts of mob violence and urge the public to report suspected criminals to the police rather than taking the law into their own hands," she said
The case has been registered under Nyenga CRB 047/2025, and investigations are ongoing.
