Police give chase to security guard who stole from hardware, recover shs70m from him

Police in Kampala have announced the recovery of shs70 million, part of a larger amount stolen by a security guard from a hardware he was guarding.

Joseph Ndamuwa, a security guard belonging to Detail Security Service is alleged to have robbed shs79 million from Mukadwe Hardware in Wampeewo,Kasangati  along the Kampala-Gayaza road in Wakiso district, before fleeing the scene.

“The suspect robbed the cash from his boss as he was preparing to bank it and fled the scene on a motorcycle,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said.

This website has separately learnt that the cash was being prepared to be banked to Standard Chartered Bank  when the security guard attacked the accountant, Ashraf Katende and robbed the cash.

Following the robbery, the management of the hardware reported the matter to Kasangati Police Station.

“Police swung into swift action and gave a hot pursuit to the suspect. He was intercepted at Naalya Roundabout. Upon his arrest, law enforcement officers recovered shs70.546,700 from him,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that he was also found with a Chinese-made SKS rifle Serial number DO24447 loaded with two rounds of ammunition and was arrested.

Owoyesigyire said the security guard is  currently detained at Kasangati Police Station under reference SD 59/14/02/2025, as investigations continue.

“We commend the officers involved for their swift response in apprehending the suspect and recovering the stolen funds. We also urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.”
