Police Hunt for Ibanda High School Headteacher Over Deadly Hit-and-Run Incident

Police are searching for Ayebale Medard, the headteacher of Ibanda High School, who is accused of killing a 7-year-old boy, Mugume Herbert, in a hit-and-run incident.

The suspect allegedly abandoned his vehicle at Kazo Police Station before fleeing.

According to Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson Michael Kananura, Ayebale was over speeding when he knocked down Mugume, leading to his tragic death.

Instead of reporting the incident, he abandoned the car and escaped, prompting a police manhunt.

Authorities have raised concerns over the rising number of hit-and-run cases. Last week alone, four children lost their lives in similar accidents.

“We are witnessing a rise in reckless driving and hit-and-run cases, which is putting lives at risk, especially children,” Kananura stated.

Under the Traffic and Road Safety Act, drivers involved in accidents must report to the police immediately.

Failure to do so carries penalties ranging from Shs 100,000 to Shs 600,000.

As the search for Ayebale continues, police are urging drivers to adhere to traffic laws and take responsibility for their actions.

The public is encouraged to report any information that could lead to his arrest.
