Doctor Killed in Awoja Bridge Collision

A road accident at Awoja Bridge along the Mbale-Soroti highway in the early hours of Sunday claimed the life of Dr Jacob Odongo, a 49-year-old resident of Dodoi, Kamacha Sub-county in Kumi District.

His passenger, Martha Atai, 21, sustained injuries.

The crash, which occurred around 12:20am, involved a Kakise Bus Company Isuzu, registration number UAZ 415X, and a Toyota Hilux double cabin, UAJ 660D.

Preliminary reports indicate that Dr. Odongo was driving towards Soroti when he lost control of the vehicle after crossing the bridge, veering into the path of the oncoming bus driven by Stanley Ochen.

The impact was fatal for Dr. Odongo, while his passenger was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

No injuries were reported among the bus passengers.

Soroti Central Police Station officers, led by ASP Justus Habyara, responded to the scene, transporting the deceased's body to the city mortuary for postmortem.

Regional Police Commander Damalie Nachuha stated that both vehicles had been towed to Soroti CPS for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on highways, as investigations into the accident continue.
