Police in Katwe have arrested a suspect for allegedly possessing stolen property and opium in an operation conducted in the early hours of January 15, 2025.

The arrest occurred at 3:30am in Ggangu C Cell, Busabala Ward, Masajja Division. The joint patrol team involved officers from Kibiri Police Station, Ggangu UPDF Detach, and local council authorities.

“Police in Katwe have arrested one suspect for allegedly possessing suspected stolen property and opium,” said Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, said.

According to Onyango, the patrol team intercepted three suspects, including Sserugo Isaac and two others.

Upon searching the premises, they recovered a range of items, including 10 sharp knives, two pangas, one hammer, four pliers, and four master keys.

They also had five phones, one StarTimes decoder, one Gotv decoder, five women’s handbags, one suitcase, and 12 SIM cards.

While two of the suspects managed to evade arrest, the detained suspect is being held at Katwe Main Police Station for further interrogation.

“Police recorded statements from relevant witnesses and found that the suspects could not account for the exhibits found in their possession,” Onyango explained.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the possession of the items and to track down the remaining suspects.
